Issue Position: Rebuilding our Economy

Issue Position

As most Nevadans know, Las Vegas has been the hardest hit by the foreclosures sweeping the country. James sponsored a bill last session to help people save their homes from foreclosure. The bill would have prevented banks and mortgage companies from foreclosing until the bank gave the homeowners a good faith opportunity to modify the loan. The bill passed the Assembly, but was killed in the Senate. James will continue to fight to keep Nevadans in their homes and avoid preventable foreclosures that occurred only because the homeowner could not get through the red tape and the banks did not make a good faith effort to to work with the homeowner. Further, James will continue his efforts to ensure that all District 12 residents are treated fairly when it comes to owning or renting a home.

James will continue his fight to create job opportunities and put Nevadans back to work. In his last term, he supported a jobs bill that will create 8,000 new jobs in Nevada starting this year. He is a strong advocate of renewable energy development projects that create new, high-tech jobs in our state. He believes that Nevada can and will become a leader in this emerging industry and will continue his efforts in the legislature to promote its growth.

James believes that the government must do more to cut costs and improve accountability and efficiency. James supports legislation to provide Nevadans with more information about how our tax dollars are spent. He will continue his efforts to cut ineffective and wasteful state programs and to ensure that jobs created with our tax dollars stay in Nevada
